Play Rogue Crew, the hidden traitor voyage game

Three voyages to port wins it for the crew. Three sunk, and the mutineers take the ship.

Rogue Crew is a hidden traitor mission game for 5 to 10 players. Most of the table is loyal crew, but a few players are secret mutineers who know each other. Each round the captain picks sailors for a voyage, everyone votes on that crew, and the chosen sailors secretly play Loyal or Sabotage. One Sabotage card sinks the voyage, and nobody sees who played it.

Games take 20 to 40 minutes and every round gives you something to argue about: who picked that crew, who voted for it, and why it sank. The Navigator knows the mutineers but must stay hidden, because a Cutthroat gets one last guess at the Navigator if the crew wins. Bots fill empty seats and talk in the log, so a practice game plays like a real table.

Why play Rogue Crew here

How to play Rogue Crew

  1. Get your orders

Everyone gets a secret role card. With 7 players there are 4 crew and 3 mutineers. Mutineers learn who the other mutineers are.

  2. Pick a crew

The captain taps seats to pick exactly as many sailors as the voyage needs, often 2 or 3 at first, and proposes the crew.

  3. Vote on it

Everyone votes aye or nay at the same time. The crew sails only if ayes outnumber nays. Five refused crews in a row hands the game to the mutineers.

  4. Sail the voyage

Each sailor secretly plays Loyal or Sabotage. Loyal crew can only play Loyal. The cards are shuffled before they are turned up.

  5. Count the result

One Sabotage sinks the voyage. With 7 or more players, voyage 4 needs two. The captain's hat then passes one seat on.

  6. Win three voyages

Three voyages in port wins for the crew, unless the Cutthroat then names the Navigator. Three sunk voyages wins for the mutineers.

Rogue Crew questions

How do you play Rogue Crew?

Players are secretly loyal crew or mutineers. Each round a captain picks a crew for a voyage and everyone votes on it. If it sails, each sailor secretly plays Loyal or Sabotage. One Sabotage sinks the voyage. The crew wins with three voyages in port, and the mutineers win with three sunk.

Is there a free hidden traitor game I can play online?

Yes. Rogue Crew is free on Deal & Roll and runs in the browser. Host a table, send the code or invite link, and friends join from any phone, tablet or computer. No account or download is needed, and bots take any seats nobody fills.

How many players do you need?

You need 5 to 10 players, and bots count. With 5 players there are 3 crew and 2 mutineers. With 7 there are 4 and 3, and with 10 there are 6 and 4. Each voyage needs 2 to 5 sailors, depending on the table size and which voyage it is.

What do the Navigator and Cutthroat do?

The Navigator is loyal crew who knows every mutineer except the Ghost. The Cutthroat is a mutineer. If the crew gets three voyages to port, the mutineers are revealed and the Cutthroat gets one guess at who the Navigator is. A right guess wins the game for the mutineers.

What is the spyglass?

With 7 or more players, the spyglass is in play by default. After voyages 2, 3 and 4, its holder secretly checks whether one player is crew or a mutineer, then announces the answer or stays quiet. Lying is allowed. The spyglass then passes to the player who was checked.

Can I practise Rogue Crew alone?

Yes. Choose Practice against bots and add bots until you have at least 5 players. The bots pick crews, vote and play cards, and they post accusations and defences in the log. You can set how chatty they are.

Can I play Rogue Crew on my phone?

Yes. The table fits phones, tablets and computers, and every choice is a tap: picking a crew, voting aye or nay, and playing your card. Your role stays on your own screen, and the log and table chat keep everyone up to date.
